A Hands on Learning Experience at Paces Paper 0

During our Etiquette Certification Courses, we devote a whole section of our training manual to Correspondence.  We instruct our trainees not only how to communicate with their clients, but also on how to choose correspondence stationery that correlates with their business.

We have to give a big  thank you to Paces Paper, located in Atlanta, GA for allowing The American School of Protocol® to have a truly hands on learning experience.  Jackie Garson Howard, owner of Paces Paper, educated the participants on stationery and captivated everyone with the beautiful styles of crane paper that are available.

Deciding on paper texture, size, color and fonts that will represent an individual and their business can often be challenging.  At Paces Paper, Jackie gave her expert advice.  She laid the ground work for where to begin and what to stay away from.

Correspondence cards and stationery can leave a lasting impression.  Taking the time to invest and find a stand out stationery is 100% worth it!!

Our Professional Dress Seminar during Corporate Etiquette Training 0

It was beneficial to see all the “trends” as well as the foundational basics.  We were sent out into the store to put together a male and female business outfit using the information and styles that were presented during Rebecca’s session.  It inspired me to think of my existing clients and select wardrobe items that would be helpful when the sales team is on the road.

The Corporate Dress session that took place at Neiman Marcus is an exceptional opportunity. The format was informative, interactive and entertaining.  I gained invaluable information and exposure.

The time at Neiman Marcus was very educational as well as enjoyable.  It was great to have genuine “hands on instructions”. Rebecca wowed us with fashion trends, tips and plenty of information to share with our clients.

Being updated on clothing and having to select various outfits was essential.  In addition to the information we gained at Neiman Marcus, the presentations and the critiques we received were so significant to the learning process.

In today’s world, there are many different business industries.   Each industry has a different clothing standard. It was great to see how to not only look professional with corporate attire, but in casual wear as well.

Corporate Etiquette Training vs. Children’s Etiquette Training 0

Why both are beneficial to your business

Thank you so much for the valuable information I received during the Children’s Train the Trainer Program.  I participated in the Corporate class first under the assumption I did not need the children’s Training.  Boy was I wrong.

The children’s course was so informative as to business start-up procedures, interacting with young people, how to form classes and what to teach.

I cannot say enough about the manuals. I was amazed that every topic is covered!  The individual Break-out Sessions were fantastic.  There were areas where more one-on-one attention took place and even more instruction was given.  The session with Mary Donne, ASP’s Corporate Attorney answered my questions pertaining to the business side of forming my company.

I am very glad I took both classes and I have no regrets in the order in which I took them.

Corporate Training taught me how to be Professional, The Children’s Training taught me how to teach.

Why the American School of Protocol? 0

Upon deciding to build a career in the field of Etiquette, I researched various domestic schools of decorum and protocol.  It quickly became clear that Peggy Newfield, Founder and President of ASP is an industry leader.  Her humble professional beginning followed by years of increasing success meant one thing; Peggy Newfield must be great at what she does!  In speaking with alumnae of various etiquette schools, the majority highly recommended The American School of Protocol®.

By personally attending the “5-Day Children’s Train the Trainer Certification” course, I experienced firsthand Ms. Newfield’s sheer love for teaching and passion for making our world a better place to live.  From her philanthropic work to her professional interests, she eagerly shares her knowledge in hopes of helping others.

My time spent at ASP was a great investment both personally and professionally.  I look forward to continuing my Etiquette Training at The American School of Protocol’s® Corporate Certification Program.

Theater Etiquette 0

by Tina Hayes

In honor of Black History Month, many theaters will spotlight black educational and entertainment programing.  From local schools to New York’s Broadway, performances in theaters will range from a child reading an excerpt from Martin Luther King to a spectacular performance by the Alvin Ailey Dance Theater.

It is important that you adhere to theater etiquette, not only out of respect for other audience members, but also for the performers and all involved in the production.  Be mindful that in “live theater,” the actors can hear and see you and they react to the responses from the audience.

Dress Code

Dress according to the “dress protocol” of the theater.  Opening night performances at Broadway shows are dressy affairs.  Men, this is your opportunity to sport that tuxedo and a formal gown for the ladies would be perfect.  Continue to dress up (suits, cocktail dresses) for evening performances on weekends, however mid-week shows are less formal and matinee attire can be casual.   Be considerate when using cologne and perfume.  Other theater goers may be allergic to certain scents.

Before, During and After the Show

Plan to arrive 30 minutes before the show begins.  This allows you plenty of time to “take-in” the ambiance of the theater, locate your seat, read the playbill, and possibly meet new people.  I also recommend using the restroom before the performance begins because lines tend to be extremely long during intermissions.  The protocol of most auditoriums is not to allow late arrivers to enter until there is a break in the performance. When couples are escorted to their seats by an usher, the procession is usher, female, and then male.  If no usher is present, the male goes first and his date follows.

Please follow the rules of the theater regarding food, drink and photography.  Most importantly, remember to turn off your cell phone or place it on vibrate as soon as you sit down.

Respond appropriately and respectfully during a show.  It is okay to laugh or applaud when you are enjoying yourself, however do not whistle or scream out a performer’s name.  It can be very distracting and cause a mishap on stage.  Parents, friends and relatives should refrain from shouting from the audience during a performance.  Wait until the end, and then applaud enthusiastically.

To keep from being a distraction to other viewers as well as the actors, remain in your seat during the entertainment.  Most theatrical productions and musicals allow one 15-20 minute intermission; you may have two intermissions during an opera. Don’t rush to leave immediately after the show.  Stay for the curtain call to show appreciation to the performers.

Bringing Children to the Theater

Before bringing a child to live theater, share some information about the story line of the play, and discuss theater manners. Tell children that while they are enjoying the performance, they should sit quietly, keep their feet down and do not disturb others.  Since food is not usually allowed, eat beforehand and remember to stop at the restroom before going to your seats.

Following these guidelines will enhance your theater experience and make it a performance to remember.

A Few Words From Our October 2011 Graduate, Peggy Hart 0

I would recommend ASP’s Certification Training to anyone considering this as a business. Originally, I didn’t want to do the Children’s program because Corporate Certification was my goal. Peggy recommended I do this course first. I am glad that I did. Our Sunday night welcome dinner was a great way to meet everyone. In fact our delicious home cooked meals each day were so good, I asked for Martha’s recipes. You fed us well! I was amazed at how quickly the 6 year olds mastered their dining skills.
