School’s Out: How to Enjoy Summer With Etiquette

Whether you are a parent, college graduate, or a child who cannot wait for a break, summer vacation is something many look forward to. Swimming pools, family time, and relaxation all come to mind when preparing to make the most out of this time. But before we get too comfortable letting loose, we need to make sure that we are following some etiquette rules to keep this summer respectful and enjoyable.

Always respect public spaces.

We are always looking for ways to beat the heat during this season. Public pools are a common choice for kicking back and having fun, but we must ensure we follow the rules for each space. Keep safety standards in mind — no running around the pool or drinking beverages in glassware — to make sure these spaces are kept as a danger-free zone.

Aside from physical safety, being courteous with your volume and personal space will ensure that everyone has a great time. This is something we teach in our manners and etiquette classes: volume is power, and it must be used wisely.

Make time for family.

Especially if you are a child or in college with a busy schedule, having personal time during the summer is a must-needed cool-off period between demanding school challenges. However, it’s important not to forget to spend time with loved ones this summer; they are excited to see you!

We constantly drill the importance of writing thank you notes and giving gifts in our etiquette certification and social etiquette classes. While you are visiting, a thoughtful thing to do would be to bring a gift or write a thank-you note for all that they do for you. Trust us, they will appreciate this act of kindness.

Practice dining etiquette.

Summer comes with its fair share of messy food items, from ice cream to pizza. Knowing proper dining rules and eating with grace can prevent any accidents that can ruin your summer fun.

When eating ice cream, a bowl is always preferred to keep clean. Eat slowly and with one bite at a time: savoring your food will keep the summer vibes lasting. One of the most important units taught in our etiquette certification classes is dining etiquette. Practicing dining properly will pay off not just personally, but socially.

Now that you are equipped with some summer etiquette tips, you can use your new manners to make the most of the season. Whether you are enjoying quality time with friends and family, or enjoying some fun outdoor recreation, these etiquette skills will have good use.

Experiencing an etiquette class is popular during the summer for this reason. That way, people can use the free time to go towards personal and professional development. Use this time to sharpen your social and dining etiquette skills — but don’t forget to have some fun.
